MATERIAL FUNDAMENTALS IN UNREAL ENGINE

Materials are the key to the realism of a scene. This one-day hands on workshop teaches you the fundaments of using materials in Unreal Engine. The PBR (Physically based rendering) workflow within Unreal Engine is a very capable, structured and advanced photo-real material system. This workshop will provide you with a basic overview of the use of materials inside Unreal Engine.

-What is PBR (Physically based rendering)?

-An overview of the PBR workflow in Unreal Engine

-Adding materials from the Content Browser

-Introduction to the material editor

-Values, Functions and Textures

-Master materials and material instances

-Creating a master material

-Creating variations (instances) of the master material

-Importing photoreal materials from the Megascan library

And introduction to some advanced materials

Duration: One day – 6 Hours

Prerequisites: This one-day workshop is only open to those students who have completed the Unreal Engine Introduction course.

Dr Nalin Mehta is an Indian media industry leader. An award-winning journalist, social scientist and author, he has held senior leadership positions in major Indian media companies; international financing institutions like the Global Fund in Geneva, Switzerland; taught and held research positions at universities and institutions in Australia (Australian National University, La Trobe University), Singapore (NUS), Switzerland (International Olympic Museum) and India (IIM Bangalore, Shiv Nadar University).

 

He was previously Executive Editor, The Times of India- Online, where he led a number of AI-led tech innovations to redefine digital media. He has also served as Managing Editor, India Today (English TV channel) and Consulting Editor, The Times of India. Mehta is the author of five best-selling and critically acclaimed books. His books include India on Television (winner of the Asian Publishing Award for Best Book on Asian Media, 2009), Behind a Billion Screens (Longlisted as Business Book of the Year, Tata Literature Live, 2015), and most recently, the best-selling The New BJP.

 

Mehta is also Non-Resident Senior Fellow, Institute of South Asian Studies, National University of Singapore. A DFID-Commonwealth scholar, he has a PhD in Politics from La Trobe University, Melbourne; M.A. International Relations, University of East Anglia, UK, and B.A. Journalism (Honours) from University of Delhi.

C B Arun Kumar has been working in the Animation and Visual Effects industry for over 30 years. He started, when he got his first BBC Microcomputer and used it for creating graphics for India’s first Science Fiction TV Series – Space City Sigma. He also worked on the very first Indian 2D animation series for Doordarshan called Ghayab Aaya!

 

He graduated from the Mass Communications Research Institute in Delhi and has worked in various capacities in the Film and Television Industry in India for companies like TV18, Business India, TV Today, Vijay TV, Moving Picture Company, Maya Entertainment and Pixion.

 

In 2005 he was awarded the National Award for best director of an Animation program for “Kachua aur Khargosh”, an episode from India’s first 3D Animated Series for Cartoon Network based on the Panchatantra.

 

C B Arun is passionate about teaching and was the Co-founder and Academic Director of FX School, a leading Film and VFX institute based in Mumbai, where he pioneered the use of DSLRs in low-cost feature film production working with noted filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma.

 

He is a Unity Certified Developer, an Unreal Engine fanatic and ardent Blender 3D Enthusiast as well as an award winning 360-degree VR photographer. His current obsession is Virtual Production using Unreal Engine which he believes to be the most important developments in Visual Effects for movies since the development of Computer Graphics.
